YIKES! Money already? Yes, yes money. But not for the reasons you might be thinking. I'll get to that in a bit though. Get your coffee, I promise these posts won't take longer than it takes for a cup my favorite hot beverage. See that crack in that cup? It's probably very unhealthy to continue to drink from that cup & the truth is every time I drink from it I hope it doesn't fall apart in my hand, but its one of my favorites.
I hope you're doing something like this today...relaxing (with a warm beverage), wondering how we got to November & taking some time be grateful. I mean its November, right? Today I'm especially thankful to all of my friends and family that are supporting me in this adventure by helping spread the word about Pens, Paper & Paint! If you've shared my links or classes or website on social media or in person...THANK YOU!! You're awesome and I'm blessed to have you as part of my circle!! So here's to November, family & friends.
Somebody thoughtfully asked why my homeschool classes at PAAL are priced lower ($50members / $60 non members) than at Hobby Lobby & other locations. I appreciate the opportunity to explain that. PAAL is a non-profit. As such, they rely on grants, donations, fundraisers, class fees etc. to keep the lights on & to keep programming going. Because of that, they are able to pay me an hourly wage and provide ALL of the supplies for the classes.
When I teach on my own, I am not affiliated with PAAL and have to keep my own stock of suppplies, consider my gas costs & the value of my time just like any other business. As much as I'd like to say I could offer you a 6-week class (7.5hrs of teaching time per student) for $50 including supplies, its just not realistic. If you look at the cost of classes for homeschoolers, mine are actually some of the lower cost ones being offered & that's because I really LOVE what I do. Its also because I know that if you're paying everyone $125 - $175 for your extra curricular classes, eventually you'll likely have to pick and choose, particularly with multiple children.
I want ART to be what you choose. Making art & exposure to the arts fosters creativity. I believe creative people are kinder people who think beyond themselves and material stuff to make the world a better place. We need more awesome people in this world. So I try to make my class fees fair and reasonable for us both so that our world does become a kinder place.
Whew! I haven't finished my cup yet, but I MAAAY have had a refill or two while writing it cause I'm still figuring out this blogging thing, ya know. Peace, love and inspiration, friends!
